Now as you may be aware, I am studying Art and Design at the University of Leeds. I am currently revising for my semester one exam and thought other people may benefit if I give a few tips that help me personally.
As we all know, everybody learns best in different circumstances, so I hope at least one of these tips helps you in some way, and if more than one works for you, then great!
- 1: Don't recycle information: When revising I personally benefit from writing out the information several times, and my tip for ensuring the information sinks in better is not to write the information in the same way. Try shuffling the sentences around each time you go over it. That way you memorise the information and not just the order you wrote it in the first time.
- 2: Find a space you feel comfortable in: Whilst I revise I like to feel comfortable, for me personally I feel comfortable in cafes and coffee shops, and I find the sounds from other people talking quite relaxing. Being in a comfortable space means your mind isn't elsewhere whilst you revise, and you can focus all of your attention on your work.

- 3: Listen to music: Similarly to how I like the background noise in cafes, sometimes I revise late at night and finding a cafe that is open proves quick hard. Listening to something in the background generally helps me, but I definitely would not recommend listening to anything with lyrics, because let's face it, if you are anything like me you'll start singing and dancing. Not good for your revision. I have even used the voice recorder on my iPhone to record the sound within the cafe, so I can feel like i'm right there if I want to.
- 4: Take breaks: Forcing yourself to sit and read through endless pages of information is not going to benefit you. Take a 5 minute break every half an hour to refresh your mind. Learning in small sections of time has proven to be most effective.
- 5: Prepare yourself: Everyone knows that revision isn't the most enjoyable activity, but it is important that you stick with it to benefit in the long run. To stop yourself from being distracted by other things, make sure you eat well before you start so you can concentrate on the information and not what you will have for lunch!
I hope these revision tips have helped you, if you feel you have a great way to revise then share it using #reviselikethis!
