Pinterest: Why Artists Should Use It

After recently finishing my A level studies in Art & Design, I have decided to write up why I think Pinterest is God's gift to artist's. Let's get started!

  1. Simplicity - The fact that this website is so well designed and simple means that it focuses on the only things that matter, the posts! There is nothing else to distract you from what you're researching, no flashy titles or hideous borders- just pure simple images.
  2. Recommendations - Unlike traditional gallery websites, Pinterest helps you find what you didn't know you were looking for. I always end up pinning recommended posts and following recommended blogs, it makes research a really easy and fun task because there's countless inspiration for your eyes to feast on!
  3. Links - If you are completely new to Pinterest or are questioning wether to make an account (you definitely should!) You will be very pleased to know that you no longer have to go through countless pages of useless inaccurate information to find what you need.
  4. Connectivity - Something I loved as an art student was looking at everyone else's work, being bale to discuss ideas and give advice to others who are passionate about the same subject as you was just fantastic, and on Pinterest it's like a giant art class with millions of art pieces to have your say about.
  5. Inspiration - The main reason Pinterest works so well for art students is that it's highly inspirational, you don't just have paintings and drawings to look through for inspiration. You have Photography, Science posts, Architecture, Clothing, Design, Travel, Nature- the list goes on. All of these categories will make your sketch books evolve into more than you would have ever imagined before you clicked that 'register' button, so do it!
